CB contactless acceptance systems approval
Since the beginning of this year, GIE Cartes Bancaires has required retailers to purchase new Eftpos terminals equipped with contactless technology.
Deployment of contactless technology and provisions relating to CB approval
Instructions have been sent to the acceptance industry concerning the provisions relating to Approval. This CB information letter deals with the measures decided by CB to promote the acceptance of contactless technology. These measures have consequences for the CB Approval process for CB5.x and OSCar Acceptance Systems.
Similarly, since 1 January 2016, manufacturers have had to submit both contact and contactless applications for CB Approval. If a contact Acceptance System is maintained, it will have to be replaced by an Acceptance System approved in both contact and contactless modes.
Key dates in the CB roadmap for accelerating contactless acceptance:
As of 01/01/2016
- All new Credit Card terminals must be technically equipped with the contactless function (approved hardware and software).
- All new contactless-enabled Credit Card acceptors must accept both contactless cards and NFC (Near Field Communication) mobiles.
As of 01/01/2020
- The entire Credit Card acceptance network must be technically equipped with the contactless function (approved hardware and software).
- All Credit Card acceptors activated for CB contactless payment accept both contactless cards and NFC (Near Field Communication) mobiles.
